A Success Story

Mr. Larry Brinson is living proof that the PRIDE experience works. Having served several prior prison terms, Mr. Brinson was destined to be a part of the revolving door of re-incarceration until he began to work for PRIDE. In 1993, he started out in the packing department of the PRIDE Calhoun Print Industry operating the shrink-wrap machine. He moved on to the shipping and receiving and was trained to operate the offset press. In 1996, he became a press operator and continued in that job until his release in 2001. About his PRIDE experience Mr. Brinson says, “PRIDE provided the only job training in prison. They treated me like a free-world worker which made my transition to employment after prison very easy.”

After receiving post-release support through the PRIDE Job Placement Program, he was hired as a press operator at Interprint. The work ethic and job skills he developed at PRIDE have made him an asset to his employer. Dan McCurdy, Plant Manager at Interprint says, “Larry Brinson is one of the most dependable employees I have hired in the past five years. It is always a pleasure to see Larry—he has such a positive attitude.” Larry has proven to adjust well in the workplace, enjoys his job and is grateful for the chance to use the skills he learned while working for PRIDE. He recently celebrated his second anniversary of employment with Interprint.

Having ridden a bicycle nine miles each way to work when first released, Larry now owns his own car, has an apartment and is an asset to the community. As a part of PRIDE’s Job Placement Program, he offers encouragement and mentors several other ex-PRIDE workers who have been released.

Mr. Brinson is among thousands of former PRIDE workers who now contribute to society. Clearly, the PRIDE experience works.
